Knottie's Pattern Database

About this Project

The pattern database is really a labor of love, born out of necessity. First, the love.

I love fiber arts, especially knitting, crocheting, and quilting. I also love web design and coding. I was stuck at home for several weeks, and found that my crafts were starting to take a toll on my joints; it was obviously too much of a good thing. I decided to combine my love of crafts with the web design and coding, and came up with the idea for this project to fill a need I see in the craft community.

On every board I belong to, I've seen requests for pattern ideas that couldn't easily be answered using the sources available to us. Sure, there are a number of web sites devoted to sharing links to online patterns, but they all have drawbacks. Firstly, these link sites generally tell you the name of the pattern and the type. If you know you're looking for a lace shawl that's called something to do with flower baskets you'll find it quickly, but what if you want a shawl with cables that uses a worsted weight yarn? Good luck!

The other drawback to the link sites is that they tend to focus on free patterns posted online. So what if you're willing to pay for the right pattern, if only you could find it?

How you can help

This site will not get off the ground and fufill its potential without help from others. I add a few patterns a day, but at that rate it would take me years to completely populate the database. In fact, I might never catch up given the rate that new patterns crop up. But if each of you will also add a pattern or two when you can, this site will be useful in a very short time. A year from now, I hope that it will have become an amazing, can't live without it resource.

So add a pattern today!
